Develop Job Description

The Job Description is the most important part of the hiring process.  Hiring the best starts by defining the real work involved, not skills or experiences, but the challenges and critical deliverables expected of a top performer.  It is the result of the clients’ understanding of the positions’ goals – what needs to be ACCOMPLISHED and When and with Whom.  What will the new hire have to accomplish to be considered successful in the role?  Are there issues that need to be addressed?  Are there teams that need to be built or rebuilt?  Is there software that needs to be acquired, installed and current staff trained on its use?  Are there new systems that need to be put in place?

Every position has 6 to 8 Key Deliverables / Drivers that spell out the answers to these questions and others. These 6 to 8 Key Drivers are Action oriented, Time bound and Measurable.  The performance-based interviewing process involves digging deep into a prospect’s background, looking for comparable accomplishments as well as career gaps and learning opportunities. This sets the stage for recruiting and closing – presenting the job as a career opportunity, not a lateral transfer focused on bidding up short-term compensation.
